FMP Group is a Global Friction Supplier developing automotive brake parts and components for Original Equipment (OE), Original Equipment Supplier (OES) and aftermarkets for both passenger and commercial vehicles. FMP Automotive (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. and FMP Group (Thailand) Limited are the branches of FMP Group (Australia) Pty. Ltd., in which FMP stands for Friction Material Pacific, better defining the business that we are involved in.
Our business began in 1955 under a British friction material company, BBA Group. That year, BBA Group established an Australian manufacturing plant named Mintex Ltd. in Ballarat, Victoria, where vehicle brake linings were produced. In 1963, American company Bendix Corporation purchased 51% of shares from Mintex Ltd., thus creating a joint venture company known as Bendix Mintex Pty. Ltd.

Bendix Mintex Pty. Ltd. started manufacturing disc pads in 1965, and we successfully signed the first Original Equipment (OE) contract with General Motors Holden (GMH) in Australia. Bendix Mintex then became the exclusive supplier of brake linings for Holden. Later on, the company penetrated into Asian countries like Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand in 1970. In Malaysia, the company was established as Don Eastern Sdn. Bhd., which is a joint venture between Eastern Agencies (Malaysia) and Don International (UK), a subdivision of BBA Group Plc.
In May 1991, 49% of Bendix Mintex’s shares were sold by BBA Group UK to Pacific BBA. In June, Honeywell Inc (previously known as AlliedSignal), BBA Group UK and Pacific BBA Group Ltd. (Australia) joined ventures, where Don Eastern Sdn. Bhd. and Don Brake Australia were acquired in July through the agreement. Don Eastern became Don Brake (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. in 1994.
1996 was the year where Don Brake Malaysia made its first success by being the OEM for Proton Malaysia. 2 years later, the group set up its first manufacturing plant in Rayong, Thailand. A year after the expansion in Thailand, Don Brake Malaysia became the OES for Perodua Malaysia in 1999. Additionally, Bendix Mintex Pty. Ltd. changed its name to FMP Group (Australia) Pty. Ltd. whereas Don Brake (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. became FMP Automotive (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd.
In 2003, FMP Group started developing asbestos-free products across all sites as it is more environmentally friendly. 4 years later, Bosch acquired Pacifica Group Ltd, Australia. FMP Automotive (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. received accreditation of the MS1164, a Malaysian Standard for passenger vehicles, which ensures that the standard of the products are always maintained.
In 2016, FMP Group has begun to expand its manufacturing plant in Rayong, Thailand.
